Instagrow browser extension

Privacy Policy

Summary

Instagrow is a browser extension that runs on your computer. Your Instagram content stays on your device. The only thing it sends to our own server (vibegrow.io) is anonymous product-usage events: an install identifier and event names like "opened scheduler", so we can understand how the extension is used and improve it. It uses no third-party trackers, and it never sends your Instagram content, cookies, DMs, or account details anywhere.

The rest of this page explains exactly what that means.

1. What Instagrow reads

When you are on an instagram.com page, Instagrow reads:

  • Instagram session cookies on *.instagram.com (such as csrftoken, ds_user_id, and sessionid) so it can make Instagram requests in your existing logged-in session. The extension never reads cookies from any other website.
  • Page content you are looking at (posts, stories, profiles, DM threads) only on the Instagram tab you have open, and only to render the toolkit’s UI on top of it.
  • Music and media URLs from Instagram’s CDN (*.fbcdn.net) when you use the music picker. This permission is optional and is requested only when you turn on music features.

2. What Instagrow stores locally

Everything Instagrow saves stays on your computer in Chrome’s extension storage. None of it is uploaded anywhere; the only thing that leaves your device is the anonymous usage events described in section 3. The local store holds:

  • Drafts and scheduled posts you create.
  • UI preferences (theme, layout, last-used filters).
  • Cached results from searches you ran (hashtags, music, accounts).
  • DM exports you save through the export feature.

You can wipe all of it at any time by removing the extension from Chrome (chrome://extensions → Instagrow → Remove). Chrome deletes the extension’s storage when you uninstall it.

3. What Instagrow sends, and to whom

Network requests fall into three categories:

  • Instagram: the extension talks to instagram.com, *.cdninstagram.com, and *.fbcdn.net on your behalf, in your logged-in session, the same way the Instagram website does.
  • vibegrow.io: the extension links to vibegrow.io/docs, /contact, /terms, and /privacy from inside the popup. These are normal hyperlinks. Clicking them opens a tab, same as any web link. No identifier is attached.
  • Anonymous product analytics. Anonymous funnel events (a random install id and event names like "opened scheduler") go to our server at vibegrow.io so we can see how the extension is used. We store them in our own database and use PostHog, a product-analytics processor, to chart them. No ad network, no cross-site tracker, and no advertising identifier; the events are never linked to your Instagram content, cookies, DMs, or account details. Disabling or removing the extension stops all analytics immediately.

4. Bundled third-party libraries

The extension package includes two open-source libraries that run entirely inside your browser. They do not phone home:

  • FFmpeg.wasm: video and image transcoding when you compose a post.
  • JSZip: packaging DM exports into a .zip file you save locally.

5. Permissions, and why each one exists

cookies

Read Instagram session cookies on *.instagram.com so background actions (scheduled posts, DM export) run in your logged-in session.

scripting

Inject the in-page creator overlay into Instagram tabs.

alarms

Wake the extension at the time you scheduled a post.

downloads

Save media or DM exports to your Downloads folder when you ask.

offscreen

Run FFmpeg.wasm transcoding off the main thread.

declarativeNetRequest

Modify response headers on Instagram requests so the offscreen worker can access them. Limited to instagram.com.

unlimitedStorage

Hold scheduled-post payloads and drafts, which can include media files.

host: *.instagram.com (required)

The extension's only target site.

host: *.fbcdn.net (optional)

Instagram's media CDN. Requested only when you enable music features.

6. Children

Instagrow is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children or adults. The only data the extension sends us is the anonymous usage events described in section 3, which contain no personal information. If you are using Instagram, you must meet Instagram’s own age requirements.

7. Changes to this policy

If we change what the extension does in a way that affects your data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. There is no email list, so check the page (or the extension’s About panel) for the current version.

8. Not affiliated with Meta

Instagrow is an independent browser extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta. Instagram and the Instagram logo are trademarks of Meta Platforms, Inc.

9. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

Instagrow's use and transfer of information received from Chrome extension APIs and Instagram pages adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

We use extension data only to provide user-facing Instagrow features such as composing posts, scheduling drafts, exporting DMs, media/music workflows, account status, and entitlement checks. We do not sell extension data, use it for advertising, or transfer it except to service providers needed to operate those features, comply with law, or protect users and the service.
